Consumer Rights Class 10 — Notes, Questions & MCQs
Complete Consumer Rights study hub for Class 10 Economics with concept
revision, Questions & Answers, MCQs, project-work support and focused
revision for CBSE 2026–27.
Consumer Rights is the fifth Economics chapter in the NCERT
sequence. For CBSE 2026–27, the official Class X Social Science
curriculum lists Consumer Rights under Project Work rather than the
Economics chapters evaluated in the written board-examination syllabus.
This hub therefore combines concept learning, project-work support, written
practice and self-testing.
Best way to use this page:
Understand the concepts first, practise written answers, use MCQs for
recall, then use the project-work guidance and official references to
build a clear, evidence-based school project.

Use labels and relevant quality marks as information aids; know that certification applies to specified products and standards.
5. Consumer Responsibilities
Check labels, price, quantity, dates where applicable, relevant standards, seller details and bills before and after purchase.
6. Consumer Protection and Redressal
Connect consumer rights with legal remedies, consumer commissions, the National Consumer Helpline and current digital grievance mechanisms.
Current Consumer Protection Context — 2026–27
Important textbook update: NCERT’s chapter explains the historical importance of the Consumer Protection Act, 1986 (COPRA). The current legal framework is the Consumer Protection Act, 2019, which came into force in 2020. Keep the textbook concepts for school answers, but use the current framework below when discussing present-day consumer protection or project work.
Consumer Protection Act, 2019
The current Act provides the legal framework for consumer protection and includes provisions covering e-commerce, product liability and misleading advertisements.
CCPA
The Central Consumer Protection Authority can act to protect consumer rights as a class and address unfair trade practices and misleading advertisements.
National Consumer Helpline
NCH 2.0 provides a government grievance-support channel. The current helpline is 1915, with web, app, WhatsApp and other options.
e-Jagriti
The upgraded consumer-commission digital platform supports online processes and follow-up for consumer dispute redressal.
The 2026–27 CBSE Social Science curriculum lists Consumer Rights as Project Work. For school assessment, students can connect the chapter with real-life consumer situations, labels, bills, quality marks, awareness and grievance mechanisms.
1. ObserveCollect examples from everyday markets: labels, MRP, quantity, dates, quality marks and bills.
2. InvestigateUse a short survey or case study to examine consumer awareness and common problems.
3. AnalyseCompare consumer rights, responsibilities and possible remedies in a real-life situation.
4. PresentOrganise findings with evidence, clear headings, visuals and a short conclusion rather than copying definitions.
Exam/assessment skill: CBSE learning standards emphasise comparing consumer rights, explaining grievance redressal and applying consumer-rights concepts to case studies and real-life situations. These skills are useful for project work, classroom assessment and revision.
